Sony Xperia XZ Launched with Snapdragon 820

Sony Xperia XZ has just started hitting stores in India today. Sony's latest smartphone is up for release in the U.S. tomorrow, Oct 2. It Sony’s Xperia XZ is priced at Rs 49,990, which makes it more expensive than the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, LG G5 and even the HTC 10. The new phone Xperia XZ was first announced a month ago at IFA.

The new flagship phone Sony Xperia XZ is specially focussed on photography. So photographers, out there might find this smartphone more than handy. Sony Xperia XZ was the first smartphone in the world that supports 5-axis video stabilization feature.

The Xperia XZ offers a 5.2 inch full HD display, which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4. We would have expected Sony to adopt the stronger Gorilla Glass 5 for a late 2016 flagship but sadly this is what you get. The Android onscreen navigation keys are found at the bottom of the sufficiently bright display. However, on closer inspection the colours of the display seem a little off and photographs tend to get a strange bluish tinge on them when viewed on the Xperia XZ. The same pictures when viewed on a large television screen did not show the the bluish tinge, pointing to a possible issue with our demo handset.

Other than that, it’s a great display for those who are not too picky about colours. What’s interesting to note here is that Sony has backtracked on its display quality with the Xperia XZ as back in the day, the Xperia Z5 Premium featured a Quad-HD (3840 x 2160) display. Sony says that this decision was made to optimise battery life on the device, since 4K displays tend to consume more power. That said, Sony has not dismissed 4K displays completely and the company says they will come up with those in the near future.

Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots, 4G with VoLTE support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC and USB Type-C port. The Xperia XZ is also IP65/68 certified that makes the smartphone resistant to water and dust. On the software front, the smartphone runs on Android Marshmallow out-of-the-box.

Sony Xperia XZ rocks an impressive Snapdragon 820 processor, 3-gigabyte RAM, 64-gigabyte internal storage which can be expanded up to 200 and a USB Type-C port.

Now let’s move towards its key features, Sony Xperia XZ comes up with a 23-megapixel rear camera (24mm wide-angle G Lens) with 5-axis stabilization, LED flash and 4K video recording capabilities. It also has the hybrid auto-focus mode which allows focusing on moving objects quickly. If we talk about its front camera then the smartphone features a 13-megapixel front camera for selfies with the wide-angle lens.

The Xperia XZ can also be used in conjunction with the company's PS4 Remote Play app, which lets you use the XZ as a second screen for streaming games around your home. This makes it a particularly promising prospect for PS4 owners, as PS4 Remote Play isn't currently supported by any other phone manufacturer.

So what you think about this device? Does this device has the potential to compete with highly popular Samsung Galaxy S7, OnePlus 3 and the LeEco Le Max2? Share your views in a comment section below.
