In April, WhatsApp rolled out end-to-end encryption, giving its users access to secure messaging. Now, WhatsApp’s half-sibling, Facebook Messenger, is taking a page out of its book, as the chat app has also rolled out its own form of end-to-end encryption.

Facebook Messenger’s implementation of end-to-end encryption, called Secret Conversation, is drastically different than the one found on WhatsApp. For one, end-to-end encryption is limited to Secret Conversation chatrooms only. As such, communications outside of these chatrooms will remain unencrypted.

Facebook has added an additional layer of security to Secret Conversation, allowing only the encrypted messages to be read on a single device, and we’re going to walk you through the process of activating.

Steps how to enable secret conversation on facebook messenger

1. Make sure latest facebook messenger installed on your android device, if you don’t have updated facebook messenger then download/update from here.

2. After updating messenger, Open it and sign in/Log in with your existing facebook account.

3. Make sure secret conversation option must be enabled from profile section.

4. So how to enable secret conversation option from the profile section on facebook messenger app.

5. First of all, you have to open messenger app then click on top of the right side profile icon.

6. Now drag down  and locate the secret conversation option from menu.

7. Now tap on it, There you will get secret conversation option, Enable it.

8. Finally, you have allowed the secret conversation option for chat.

Steps how to chat with friends on a facebook messenger in a secret way

1. First of all, open the Facebook Messenger.

2. Now enable the secret conversation option from the profile section.

3. After enabling the secret chat option, Choose any contact or friend which you want to start secret conversation on messenger.

4. Now select any friends and tap on it.

5. After taping on friend chat/ Tab, you will enter on your friend’s tab. Now click on the top of the right side corner where you will get “i” type of sign, tap on it.

6. Now you have to drag down and locate the secret conversation option from menu, Click on it.

7. After clicking on the secret conversation option, you will reach a secret messenger black window.

8. Whenever you will chat in messenger black window, your chat will be end to end encrypted.

9. Remember you will not able to access the secret chats on desktop mode even can not send messages in a secret way.

10. You can set the time limit for disappearing chats, your messages will disappear in 30 seconds, 1 minutes or hours after your friends were seen

Note:- It’s an end to end encrypted chat so your chat will be automatically deleted after 24 hours even you can set the time limit for removing chat.
