Finally, an unofficial port of the tech giant Google’s latest version of Android operating system Android 7.0 Nougat has been already created now for the Raspberry Pi 3.
However, the build may not be as stable as the official Android by Google for Nexus devices, but at least the Raspberry Pi owners can now have the taste of the new version of Android OS, Android 7.0 Nougat.
The port was created by Peter Yoon, a developer who has got previous releases of Android running on the Pi. The source code and instructions on how to get it running are available on his GitHub repository. In the past he had already made the porting Android TV on the same platform.
Android Nougat on Raspberry Pi is big news as many developers are keen to experience the latest operating system. In addition to merely a simple preview, Raspberry Pi enables programmers to test their developments on the single-board computer. This would result in some innovations from the ever-growing DIY community.
The release only works on the Raspberry Pi 3, the newest version of the board, and in the video is only shown for running for a few minutes, as the user tinkers with the app launcher, notification panel, and system settings. The system settings seem to be displaying the correct information about the Pi but the OS does crash when the 'About tablet' button is clicked.
This home version of Android still have few problems but no doubt it is a good starting point. So, the user who wants or have a Raspberry Pi 3 can download from here and follow all the development project in the Forum.
