Google unveils the official name for Android N is Nougat

Google has announced that the next version of Android, codenamed “N”, will be called Nougat, bitterly dividing opinion among its fans.

Google announced Android 7 simply as “N” and put out a call for suggestions of names starting with N. Most previous versions of Android have come with a confectionary or sweet-based code name.

Unlike some other large tech companies in Silicon Valley, Google late this year clearly shown that the company dares certain traditions to let go. In a short video, Google shows how the image of Android Nougat is revealed in the front yard of the Google headquarters.

The developer preview for Android N, or should we say Android Nougat, launched a few months back. The upcoming update would include features such a multi-window support on phones and tablets that would allow users to run two apps side-by-side in split screen mode. Further, the update would also allow users to reply to notifications from within the notification interface. Android Nougat also improves upon the Doze feature that was introduced in Marshmallow and introduces a data saver mode.

As we all know that it is the tradition of Google to give a new version of Android a name which is also the name of a confection, where the name of the new Android version always begins with a successive letter of the alphabet.

In addition, the notification panel was also improved considerably and there is embedded a virtual reality mode, which makes the Android Nougat for Daydream. Perhaps the most useful improvement is that the Android Nougat downloads all its security updates in the background and install them automatically. This means that now you don’t have to drive to install the updates manually as this is done automatically by the system itself.
