Facebook Turned on 360-Degree Photos to the News Feed

Facebook said, in a blog post from its Oculus virtual-reality division, that “in the coming weeks,” its users will be able to turn their panoramas into 360-degree photos and upload 360-degree photos made with dedicated 360-degree cameras.

Once you upload an image, your friends will be able to pan around the picture by tilting their phones, or by dragging their finger or cursor around the photo.

These 360-degree photos will be viewable in Facebook’s mobile apps, its website and both the Oculus Rift and Samsung Gear VR virtual reality headsets (through an Oculus 360 Photos app).

Since September of last year, the 360-degree videos are available on Facebook and now the social tech giant Facebook is making its platform more user-friendly to photos. The social tech giant Facebook also stated that users can shot photos with a smartphone instead of an expensive video gear.

How does it work? Take a panorama photo as you normally would on your iPhone or Android device, then simply upload it to Facebook. From there, friends with VR headsets can download the Oculus 360 Photos app to "experience" the space, and those who are scrolling through their feed on phones can move around the image by touching and dragging the photo.

For example, the tech giant Google built its Photo Sphere system into Android, which allows users to capture full 360 panoramas and then users can watch them on VR headsets like Google’s Cardboard. As we all know that the good 360 videos are quite tough to shoot and usually require a high-end camera. But, now a large division of smartphones can shoot for VR, so, thanks to our new high-tech technology which makes it possible to shoot good 360 videos.
