The Samsung Galaxy Ring was given details at MWC 2024

Samsung’s much-anticipated Galaxy Ring made its first public appearance at the MWC 2024 event in Barcelona. The Korean tech giant confirmed that the Galaxy Ring will be available in Black, Silver, and Gold color finishes, and in 9 different size options, ranging from 5 to 13.

This is a step up from the Oura Ring, which offers eight size options, and the Ultrahuman Ring AIR, which is available in seven sizes, from 6 to 12. The weight of the Galaxy Ring variants will differ, but the heaviest will weigh just 2.9 grams, making it lighter than both the Oura Ring and the Ultrahuman Ring AIR.

Dr. Han Pak, VP and Head of Samsung’s Digital Health team, revealed at the Galaxy Ring briefing that the device will offer a battery life of about 5-9 days. This aligns with what Samsung President Roh Tae-moon stated earlier, that the Samsung ring wearable will provide a backup of up to 9 days.

The Galaxy Ring is designed as a healthcare-centric wearable. It will bring Booster Cards to its users, providing additional guidance within the Samsung Health app. Samsung is also working on an AI fitness coach, which is expected to be integrated into the Ring’s framework.

The Galaxy Ring will offer fertility tracking for women through an integration with the Samsung partner app, Natural Cycles. It will also provide advanced sleep tracking based on data from the users’ heart rate, respiratory rate, and movements made when sleeping.

While the release date of the Galaxy Ring is still under wraps, Dr. Pak hinted at a launch “later this year”. It is expected that the Galaxy Ring will be launched alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 around late July to early August.

Samsung’s Galaxy Ring may not be compatible with iOS, as most of the recent Galaxy Watches are not either. However, users will benefit from being in the Samsung ecosystem, as wearing both a Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Ring will enhance the accuracy of metrics, especially for sleep tracking.

Reports suggest that Apple is developing a smart ring to compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Ring. Only time will tell if we are ready to put a Galaxy Ring on it.
