Both new Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL have endured their fair share of criticism since launch, but that does not mean the phones are below-par. In addition to the extraordinary camera and software, the latest Google duo ships with “Smooth Display” screen technology which supports upto 90Hz of refresh rate. To balance the additional power take-off from the higher refresh rate, Pixel 4 dynamically switches between 90Hz and a more standard 60Hz dependent on the displayed content, typically daily tasks like making calls or when non-optimized apps are running.

However, if you want to view everything in 90Hz, you are in luck as there’s a way to force 90Hz refresh rate on Pixel 4 and that too, with just a few simple steps. There is a trade-off, however, as higher refresh rate will cause your battery to drain much faster — which might become problematic since standard Pixel 4 already has a fairly mediocre battery life. Despite this, you can still try it out! Thanks to being a built-in setting, no modification is required and it is easily reversible!

Unlike some higher refresh rate display phones like OnePlus 7T, you do not require ADB commands to get maximum refresh rate on Google Pixel 4. Instead, you just have to switch on the phone’s Developer options.

Steps how to force 90Hz refresh rate on Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL

1. Open Settings > Phone Information

2. Scroll down to Building Number and press it five times.

3. Now go to Settings > System> Advanced > Developer Options.

4. Scroll down to Debug and the second last setting Force the 90Hz refresh rate.

5. Press Force refresh rate at 90Hz and press the dial to activate it.
