WhatsApp Beta Rollout New ‘Pinned Chats’ Feature

With almost everyone you know using WhatsApp, there are floods of messages that keep coming to your inbox. While Gmail or any other service has some management methods, the mobile messaging app simply displays the latest messages on top. It doesn’t differentiate between group or individual messages. At times, you might lose touch with your friends or a possible conversation that you wish to be notified of.

According to WABetaInfo, the newest WhatsApp beta for Android with build number 2.17.105 comes with a pinning feature. According to the source, users will be able to pin chats (not more than 3, at the moment) in next versions. Also, this feature is disabled by default so users have to turn it on in chat settings.

The search functionality in WhatsApp Android does help find the person you need. However, pinned messages are more efficient as it saves a lot of time and you can always read the updates at a glance, whenever you open the app. The video call button is now integrated in the contact info. Yet another simple yet useful addition! You can now choose to voice, video call or text the person right from the contact page.

WhatsApp seems to be playing catch-up. Not only Telegram, it recently copied the Snapchat-like Photo Story feature and put it under the Status section. This feature takes almost the same approach like Snapchat where the your status picture disappears after 24 hours. It also offers the ability to doodle on the video or photo that you are adding to the status.

This wasn’t received very well by all its users and WhatsApp faced a considerable amount of backlash and criticism from users for launching the new feature. Keeping the customer feedback in mind, the company was said to be working on bringing the old version of ‘Status’ back by putting it under the ‘My About’ section.
