iPhone 8 is Coming With 5 Exciting Features

The rumors about the iPhone 8 are spreading like fire on the internet. Last year, the world saw iPhone 7 which was a huge hit as expected. Android users also have plenty to look forward to in the first half of 2017.

Apple fans are still eight months away from getting their hands on Apple’s tenth anniversary iPhone, and it is expected to arrive with many new features. So, in this article, we will go through the biggest and most exciting changes expected on this year’s iPhone 8.

#New Design

Well, we have seen that Apple releases iPhones which are nearly identical. Apple will supposedly switch back to a glass sandwich design with this year’s iPhone 8. The front and back of the phone are expected to be constructed of sturdy glass, while the edges of the handset will be stainless steel. Several reports also state that the edge-to-edge display on the iPhone 8 will curve down at the sides, but we expect it to be a subtle curve like the concept render at the top of this post, as opposed to a big slope like what we’ve seen on Samsung smartphones.

Also of note, the home button is dead — long live the virtual home button. Multiple solid reports have stated that Apple’s iPhone 8 will not include a physical home button like every iPhone before it. Instead, the display will occupy a much larger portion of the phone’s face, and the home button’s various functions will be replaced with 3D Touch gestures.

#Specifications

Apple’s iPhone 8 is going to be powerful. Maybe, the powerful smartphone ever. With every new iPhone, Apple debuts its new A-series chip thereby setting a new performance benchmark, and the iPhone 8 is not going to be any different. The A11 chip inside the iPhone 8 will be fabricated on TSMC’s 10nm fabrication process, though its other specs remain unknown for now. Apple is likely to continue with its Fusion four-core design that it debuted with the A10 this year, but it’s likely that the company will tweak it further by boosting clock speeds to make it faster and more power efficient thanks to the new fabrication process from TSMC.

The GPU is also going to get a significant performance boost, and we might finally see Apple debut its own custom designed GPU with A11 this year. On paper, the A11’s GPU should offer a similar level of performance as some of the game consoles currently on sale.

#Wireless Charging

The new glass design on the iPhone 8 is important because it will also allow Apple to offer wireless charging on the iPhone 8. At this point, multiple reports have stated that the iPhone 8 will come with wireless charging. However, it remains to be seen if Apple’s implementation of wireless charging will be truly wireless or not. The company has been working on a long-range wireless charging technology, but it remains to be seen if it is ready for mass production and adoption.

Apple has already asked its suppliers for wireless charging chips for the next iPhone, with Foxconn reportedly building the charging modules for the handset. It’s unlikely that Apple will bundle the wireless charger with the phone though.

#Display

Speaking if the iPhone 8’s display, 2017 will mark the first year Apple will shift from an LCD panel to an OLED panel in the iPhone.

Like Samsung’s class-leading Galaxy phones, Apple’s iPhone 8 will feature an OLED panel. Also like Samsung’s recent Galaxy phones, the iPhone 8 display is expected to be a flexible panel that curves on either side at the edges. As we noted above, however, we expect the curve to be much more subtle — just a slight downward bend for styling.

#Facial Recognition

The reports from Ming-Chi Kuo states that Apple will include a facial recognition feature in iPhone 8. Here’s what the report indicates:

“Judging by the bio-recognition patents that Apple has applied for, we believe it is leaning toward facial recognition technology rather than iris recognition. However, we note that the technical challenges of facial recognition include: (1) algorithms; (2) hardware design; and (3) the build-out of a database for verification and authentication, which could be time-consuming. As such, before Apple can fully replace the fingerprint system with facial recognition, a combination of the two steps of bio-recognition could be a valid solution for enhancing transactions security.”

So, adding a facial recognition feature would add another layer of safety to the upcoming iPhone device.

#iPhone 8 Release Date

Apple has always unveiled a new iPhone in the first half of September and followed it up with its release in late September. Until and unless the company hits some major technical snag or supply issues, the iPhone 8 will also be launched in September 2017.
