Google allows adding support in Hindi for Google Assistant

Google Assistant on the Allo messaging app is now available in Hindi. This is the second language which the Assistant supports and Google had confirmed the same in September. India is Google’s second largest market, and one it is banking for the high velocity growth in the coming months. Hindi language capabilities will come to the Assistant and Smart Reply feature in Google Allo. It will start rolling out to Android and iOS over the next few days. Allo was launched in September.

The company said in a statement "Google Allo has received tremendous response in India which has one of the highest number of Google Allo users," said Amit Fulay, Group Product Manager of Google.

"One in every 12 messages in group chats are messages to the Google Assistant. We are enthused by this and today's launch enables us to extend these features to the next millions of users in a language of their choice," Fulay added.

With the launch, the Google Assistant in Allo will now understand and respond in Hindi.

"Chat one-one-one with your Assistant in Allo, or just type @google to bring your Assistant into any group chat. To start using the Assistant in Hindi, just say 'Talk to me in Hindi' or adjust the language setting on your device," Google said.

The Google Assistant, in particular, is one of the most loved features in Google Allo – one in every 12 messages in group chats are messages to the Google Assistant. We are enthused by this and today’s launch enables us to extend these features to the next millions of users in a language of their choice.”

So, if you need to use the Assistant in Hindi, just open Google Allo app and open Google assistant and just type “Talk to me in Hindi” . Now you will see the Google assistant will talk and reply you in Hindi. The smart reply will show suggestions in that particular language only.

The Hindi language version is not slower or faster than the English language version. However, like all Chatbots and digital assistants, there might occasional delays of varying length for questions. This is normal. Although Assistant in Hindi may stumble at times, the experience is overall a good one, and makes powerful AI technologies available to more people, in a more familiar language. Allo is available for free on the Play Store and the App Store. We cannot wait for support in Bambaiya Hindi and Hinglish, with support for colloquialisms and slang.
