I have heard reports of Nokia's plans for making a return to the smartphone market. It has even signed a deal with Finland-based HMD Global which allows the latter to use Nokia branding for releasing smartphones and tablets. In exchange of licencing the brand name, Nokia will earn money through royalties on the sale of these devices. Now, we have come across leaked specifications of two Nokia-branded smartphones which suggest an imminent release of the phones.
The two Nokia Android smartphones with 5.2-inch and 5.5-inch display sizes. Both these displays will feature QHD (2560×1440 pixels) resolution, and will be powered by a Snapdragon 820 chipset. However by the time they launch, these smartphones are likely to be powered by the newer Snapdragon 821 chipset. The bigger of the two variants is also expected to feature a 22.6-megapixel rear camera.
Both the variants will be featuring an all-metal build. They will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 and run on the latest Android Nougat 7.0. But it will be using Z-Launcher as the system UI instead of the stock Android or any other custom ROM.
Sources for this info comes via NokiaPowerUser’s “trusted sources” and also via Gizmochina, with GC’s report claiming both models will have 2K display resolutions, and NPU saying instead QHD on Super AMOLED panels for both.
The reports also add we’re looking at a metallic build which will re-introduce Nokia’s distinctive build and design qualities of yesteryear (we’re guessing this means in terms of solid build, decent materials, and a nice feel in the hand), as well as IP68 waterproofing certification on both handsets. Additionally, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor is name-dropped for both devices too, meaning they’re both apparently more-or-less equal-footing high-end devices rather than a high and mid-ranger dual-launch.
The report further claims that these leaked Nokia Android smartphones are likely to be launched in China sometime in the first quarter of 2017. The bigger of the two smartphones is also expected to be priced somewhere close to 3,000 Yuan (Rs 30,000 approximately).
