Samsung Officially Recall Galaxy Note 7 Smartphone Over Reports of Battery Fires

In recent years we all have already heard much news about the devices that exploded or caught fire spontaneously, some even came to hurt the users also. Fortunately, such cases are often isolated and do not become widespread problems which were derived from manufacturing problems.

Samsung on Friday morning announced that it will recall every Galaxy Note 7 it has produced to date. The news comes just one day after Samsung halted production following a handful reports of faulty units. Why halt production and issue a recall because of just a handful of faulty units? The devil is in the details — Samsung’s faulty Galaxy Note 7 handsets don’t just fail, they explode.

According to the information being conveyed, one of the buyers of the Korean version of the Samsung Galaxy Note7 had an accident with the fantastic device Galaxy Note 7 which costs more than 800 euros. The device exploded and suddenly caught the flames.

The user states that he was lucky because the smartphone was in charge and not in use. However, he noted that it has happened due to the use of a microUSB cable to USB converter type C.

The photos show that the available Galaxy Note7 was completely destroyed after it exploded and the flames have fully consumed the device, these flames that appeared on the left side of the phone simply showing images of a molten screen. However, the user appealed and Samsung guarantees to retrieve a new device.

Samsung has also released an official statement on their website.

"Samsung is committed to producing the highest quality products and we take every incident report from our valued customers very seriously. In response to recently reported cases of the new Galaxy Note7, we conducted a thorough investigation and found a battery cell issue.

To date (as of September 1) there have been 35 cases that have been reported globally and we are currently conducting a thorough inspection with our suppliers to identify possible affected batteries in the market. However, because our customers’ safety is an absolute priority at Samsung, we have stopped sales of the Galaxy Note7.

For customers who already have Galaxy Note7 devices, we will voluntarily replace their current device with a new one over the coming weeks.

We acknowledge the inconvenience this may cause in the market but this is to ensure that Samsung continues to deliver the highest quality products to our customers. We are working closely with our partners to ensure the replacement experience is as convenient and efficient as possible".

Samsung has said it aimed for the Note 7 to maintain strong sales momentum in the second half of the year against stiffening competition from the likes of Apple, which is widely expected to release its latest iPhone next week.

“I am concerned more about a potential reduction in sales than recall costs,” said analyst Jay Yoo at Korea Investment & Securities. “The recall is likely to be a blow to earnings.”

Samsung said new sales of the Note 7 in affected markets would resume after it deals with replacements, a process it expects will begin in about two weeks. The firm would extend refund periods for affected customers and offer exchanges for other Samsung phones, Koh said.
