Reliance Jio Offers Free Voice Calls, Roaming And Cheap Data Plans

As we all know that Jio, also known as Reliance Jio and officially as Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, it is an upcoming provider of mobile telephony, broadband services, and digital services in India.


Reliance Jio which was previously available to users of Only Lyf Smartphones. Recently Reliance had launched a preview offer for its JIO Sim and extended its services to many other smartphone manufacturers too.


Mukesh Ambani-promoted Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) unleashed a price war in the telecom sector on Thursday by offering voice calls free both local and while roaming and promising to offer data at cheap prices of Rs 25-50 per gigabyte (GB) through its unit -Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd.

“I believe that these are the absolute lowest data rates anywhere in the world,” said Ambani at the company’s 42nd annual general meeting while launching Jio. “Jio’s mission is to meet the exploding need of data for India, and to take our nation from data shortage to data abundance,” he said.

Jio said it may extend the introductory offer of free services beyond December 31 if calls still don't go through due to PoI issues or users face challenges in switching to its network via MNP.

"Jio will give the 'power of data' to each Indian to fulfil every dream and to collectively take India to global digital leadership," Ambani said. "The world's demand for digital oxygen, that is data, is growing explosively. Jio's mission is to meet this exploding need for India, and to takeour nation from data shortage to data abundance."


Chairman Mukesh Ambani Said “Current market practice is to charge for data a base rate between Rs. 4,000 and Rs. 10,000 – Jio will have a base rate which is 1/10th of this. Our data plans go even further with an effective rate of 5p/MB or Rs. 50/ GB.”


If we look at the plans chart then things looks different from the Rs 50 for 1GB that was announced let’s have a look at the tariffs chat.

Cheap data is just one of RIL’s planks to take on current operators. The firm is also planning to sell smartphones as cheap as Rs.2,999 and WiFi routers for Rs.1,999. It has also promised improved service quality in areas such as booking a new connection.


Reliance Jio has played its early cards but Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea aren’t expected to sit still. They have huge turfs to safeguard and the momentum of existing customers to back them. A no-holds barred battle for the Indian telecom customer is on the cards.
