New iOS 10 Features Everyone Is Needs to Know

Apple has finally unveiled iOS 10, the company’s latest mobile operating system for the iPhone and iPad. Packed with a number of compelling features, Apple has been steadily rolling out iterative betas to both developers and the public over the past few weeks.

There are plenty of new features, app updates, fresh functionalities, for users to enjoy. iOS 10 comes a brand new lock screen, a completely different way to unlock your phone, a fancy new messages app, and plenty more. Let’s take a quick look at all the new stuff.

#Raise to Wake

The first thing you’ll likely notice after installing iOS 10 is the new “Raise to Wake” feature. When you pick up your phone, the screen automatically lights up. This works on iPhone 6s phones and newer.

The lock screen is a bit different now. You can swap in three directions to pull up different screens. Swipe to the left to pull up the camera, swipe up from the bottom for the Control Center, and if you swipe left on Control Center, you’ll get to your audio controls. When you swipe to the right, you’ll see the new widget area. This is basically the same as the widgets in the Notification Center in iOS 9, but a lot cleaner. Notifications are also a bit different now. When a new notification pops up, you can hard-press it to reply, view attachments, or watch any videos right from the lock screen.

When you’re done looking around, you’ll notice a feature that’s been in iOS since the first iPhone is gone. That’s right, “Slide to Unlock” is no more. Now, press the Home button to unlock your device using Touch ID.

#Remove default apps

Yes, you can finally delete many of the iOS stock apps. For years, iOS users have lamented the fact that Apple’s built-in iOS could not be deleted. With iOS 10, Apple has finally decided to end years of prolonged frustration by enabling us to get rid of those potentially unwanted apps that we never use. Of course, not all stock apps are deletable; some of them like Safari, Messages, and Settings, are tied too deeply to iOS, so they’re sticking around.

The pre-installed apps, which you will be able to be deleted are — Calendar, Contacts, Find My Friends, iBooks, iCloud Drive, Maps, News, Podcasts, Stocks, Videos, Watch app, Compass, FaceTime, Home, iTunes Store, Mail, Music, Notes, Reminders, Tips, Voice Memos, and Weather.

#Easily unsubscribe from mailing lists

iOS 10 makes unsubscribing from mailing lists easier than ever. Instead of having to go searching for an unsubscribe button, the Mail app in iOS 10 can detect if a particular message is part of a mailing list and, in turn, will display an easy to locate “unsubscribe” button towards the top of the page.

#Storage optimization

Apple with the iPhone 7 finally did away with its entry-level 16GB model. However, if you are still using an 16GB device, or even if you’re using a higher-capacity device and happening to be running low on storage, iOS 10 makes it easier to always keep room available. Thanks to a new storage optimization feature, users can take advantage of a setting that will automatically delete songs from a user’s music library if they haven’t been played in a while.

#New bedtime and wake feature

Apple updated its Clock app with a number of new features in iOS 10, including a tab called bedtime. The new Bedtime tab helps you to make sure you are getting the amount of sleep you want and keeps track of it over time. It lets you set yourself a time to sleep, and then sends notifications telling you that it’s time to go to sleep. Coupled with its built-in “wake” feature, which can wake you up at a specific time each day, this new feature will replace your daily alarm clock.

#Automatically tell you exactly where you parked your car

Ever happened that you walked around the parking lot searching for the car you just parked at a place some time ago?  iOS 10 solves this problem by remembering where you parked your car, automatically. It will remember your car’s location anytime you stop at a place other than your home.

#Messages Animations

Messages is...a lot sillier. You can handwrite messages on the screen, add animation effects to message bubbles, add animations to the entire screen, send goofy “hidden” messages, respond with simple animated quick responses, add sketches over images, use stickers, and tons more. In fact, there’s a whole new App Store built into the Messages app where you can search for and add apps.
You can also now scan a message before you send it to see if any emoji can replace words. Oh, and emoji are now giant when they’re sent without any other text.

#Share your current location more easily

If a friend or family member is coming to meet you, you might want to send your current location so they can quickly and easily get to exactly where you are. With the revamped Messages app in iOS 10, it’s now easier than ever to share your current location.

Specifically, the messages app is now contexted aware and will prompt users to share their location in response to certain questions. For example, if someone asks “Where are you?”, the ability to share one’s “Current Location” automatically pops up as an option.

#Clear all notifications with one tap

Clearing out your notifications in iOS 9 could sometimes be a chore, especially if you have standing notifications from a multitude of applications. With iOS 10, it’s finally possible to clear all notifications with a single tap. To do so, simply apply a 3D Touch action to the ‘x’ toggle highlighted below and then you can select “Clear All Notifications” to get the job done.

#Adjust Flashlight intensity

This is a great new tweak in iOS 10. If you call up the Control Center and then apply a 3D Touch to the Flashlight icon, you can adjust its intensity between three different settings.

Other key changes
  • Fast camera app launch
  • RAW photo support, with capture of RAW images in iPhone 6s and above
  • Maps improvements
  • Flashlight intensity adjustment
  • Copy and paste between iOS 10 and macOS Sierra
  • Apple Pay on the web
  • Revamped news app
The iOS 10 has left some hardware behind, only running on the iPod touch sixth generation, iPhone 5, iPad Mini 2, and iPad fourth generation and newer.
