iPhone 7 launch event: Preorders Start Friday, release on September 16

Apple confirmed on Wednesday that the dust-and-water-proof iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be available in India starting Friday, October 7, ahead of the Diwali celebrations, which begin on October 30. The announcement was made during the conclusion of the iPhone launch event.

During the launch event, Apple unleashed its latest flagships, iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, and also revealed the pricing and availability of the iPhones across the globe. Sadly, the new iPhones won't arrive in India this month, as they would in most countries. As far as the pricing is concerned, Apple did not reveal the official cost of the new iPhones in India.

Apple announced two phones at its launch event, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. As you might imagine the Plus is a fair bit bigger than the 7. You’ll struggle to squeeze it in a back pocket.

The most anticipated phone release of the year is finally here. As well as the announcement of a brand new Apple Watch 2 and the ability to play Pokemon Go, we finally know everything there is to know about Apple’s brand new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

iPhone cameras have always been good, but in recent years it’s arguable that Samsung and LG phones have surpassed them.

Apple show us the iPhone 7's display - it's 25% brighter than the 6s, rendering it to a "cinema standard" of quality. It also boasts 3D Touch, which has surpassed the Force Touch technology on previous models.

With 3D Touch, the iPhone 7 can register a wider range of pressure, and Apple says iOS 10 will introduce new features (and, most likely, apps) that take advantage of this improved sensor.

Apple is looking to hit back with improved selfie and rear snappers. It claims they are faster, more detailed and provide better colours than ever before. Crucially Apple claims they will also perform a lot better in dark conditions, like in a bar or restaurant.

There’s a third camera too, but only on the iPhone 7 Plus. This second snapper has a telephoto lens so you can get 2x optical zoom, getting you closer to the action if you’re at a gig without losing any detail that bog-standard digital zoom on previous iPhones did.

The iPhone is running on a new A10 chip, which Apple claims is 40% faster than the 6s's A9 processor, boasting four cores and 3.3 billion transistors. It's also twice as fast as the A8.

The iPhone 7's new battery stats aren't bad at all, but the 7 Plus's are better. At 60 hours, it's the longest battery life ever on an iPhone, the tech giant boasts. We'll have to put those claims to the test in our review, of course, but that's two more hours than the 6s and one hour more than the 6s Plus.

It's gone! It really has gone. Apple has removed the standard headphone jack - but it's not all bad news.

You get a set of Lightning EarPods in the box, meaning you'll be able to plug in right away, while an adaptor is also included so you can continue to use your current headphones if you wish. Although it's certainly not the most elegant implementation.

If you're feeling flush you can splash the cash and get yourself a set of AirPods - Apple's first wireless Bluetooth ear buds. They feature five hours of listening on a single charge, dual microphones allowing you to take calls and interact with Siri and touch response, so you can answer calls and launch Siri.

Pre-orders open this Friday in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, UAE, the UK, US Virgin Islands, and the US, with the iPhone releasing in these countries on September 13.

In line with rumors, Apple announced on Wednesday during its big September event that the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be made available for preorder beginning Friday, September 9th. The phones will then be released next week on September 16th. Both new iPhone models have an India release date of October 7, Apple has confirmed.

Apple’s new iPhones come with either 32GB, 128GB or 256GB of storage, but pricing will remain the same at $649, $749 and $849 for the iPhone 7 or $769, $869 and $969 for the iPhone 7 Plus. Jet Black will only be available on 128GB and 256GB models of both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
