Google’s Modular Smartphone Project Ara Reportedly Is Dead

It sounds like Project Ara, the ambitious modular smartphone concept birthed in Google's ATAP division, is finally dead. A report from Reuters says that Google has "suspended" Project Ara in an effort to "streamline the company's hardware efforts."

But, now it seems that the Alphabet-owned Google is getting rid of the modular smartphone project created by its former itself. It was the development of a smartphone modules that would be interchangeable with each other, as it has transpired, the Mountain View are putting the ellipsis in hardware.

However, the company’s CEO Sundar Pichai has not issued an institutional position, which would help clear the rumors that have spread around the disappearance of modular smartphone project. Moreover, it is likely that the Ara project can be taken up by a joint effort between Google and some other smartphone manufacturing company, through a strategic or alliance, licensing the patent.

So far even the tech Companies like Toshiba and Nintendo have already stepped in with their Ara-based camera modules and Smart Boy. As it is very clearly visible that the project has been put to temporary halts in the past.

In several specialized media which has handled the version that the tech giant Google seeks to unify their efforts in hardware, a provision which would also affect Chromebooks, Chromecast and Nexus themselves, who supposedly would end with the upcoming release of HTC smartphone backed by Google.

But now the Reuters report states that the tech giant Google has finally prepared to put a stop signal in the development path of Project Ara. Yes, it is true though it sounds really bad, but finally, the tech giant Google decided to put a stop signal.

Google may not cancel the whole Project Ara plan completely, yes, the tech giant Google still had plans to release a consumer version in 2017 but for now, it seems to be gray. Google may not work on the product itself, but, it may possible that Google license the modular smartphone development to other companies that would ultimately lead to Project Ara smartphones hitting the market in the near prospect as we mentioned earlier.
