Google Chrome Beta 54 Lets You Play YouTube Videos In Background on Android

Google released version 53 of its Chrome browser just a couple of days ago for Mac, Windows and Linux, but mobile users on Android need not worry. The company has a special place in its heart for its mobile OS - in fact, the Google Chrome Beta for Android version 54 is now available.

Google had introduced the various useful update to its newly released Chrome Beta with version 54. The popular and most catchy features are redesigned new tab page and Background video playback. Therefore, now you can play videos from web pages in the background.

Let’s explain it in more details. While using Chrome beta 54, if you are playing any video on any web page and if you leave Google chrome then you will see a notification of a video bar in your Android’s notification panel. You simply need to tap on “Play” button if you want to play video while doing other stuff on your Android device.

Developers can now trigger full screen mode after a device changes orientation. This allows for rotate-to-fullscreen in media players. With Chrome defaulting to HTML5 by year’s end, embedded YouTube Flash players will be rewritten by desktop Chrome to use the HTML5 embed style, thus improving performance and security.

Specifically, Chrome 54 does not immediately close a media notification when a video is no longer in the foreground. A playing video still pauses when your exit the app, but users can now press play on the media notification to resume a video’s audio. A TED Talk is used as an example, but YouTube also works.

If anyone wants to try the new Google Chrome Beta 54 can download it from here. But before you download to keep in mind that the new app is still making some changes to the browser in order to make it more user-friendly. Therefore you may suspect some bugs.

If you may want to check running Chrome version on your Android device.

1. Open Chrome on your Android device.

2. Tap on the address bar Chrome browser.

3. And write "chrome://version" on the address bar page.

4. This displays the version of Google Chrome on the device.
