Apple's iOS 10 iMessage GIF Search Is Showing Porn Results

we all know it hasn’t even been a month of its iOS 10’s official release and Apple has already touched the heat. iOS 10’s includes a bunch updates to Messages that are intended to improve communication. You can now insert stickers into your messages and another feature lets you search and share GIFs very quickly. Now the struggle behind Apple was more embarrassing than anything else. Actually, the iMessage Gif search on iOS 10 is showing porn GIFs.

Apple has also completely overhauled its iMessages app, to add new multimedia features such as stickers, animations and a predictive emoji keyboard. A GIF library allows users to quickly search for the perfect GIF to insert into a message.

While the app does apparently have in-built search filters to help it weed out such content from its interface, Apple appears to be struggling with this particular release. Incidentally, the GIF search feature in the iMessage app is powered by Microsoft’s Bing search engine. There has been no update from either of the companies regarding this issue, but since this ‘bug’ was uncovered, words like “butt” and even “huge” have been eliminated from the search tool.

The embarrassing moment was first spotted by Deadspin’s Kyle Wagner who was served with an animated My Little Pony porn. Yes, that's a thing. Deadspin noticed on Wednesday that when you search the word "butt" in iMessage, the app instantly surfaced pornographic images, including a very sexual GIF of the female My Little Pony character Fluttershy. Following this, the word “huge” was also found to showing up some uncensored gif image results.

The showing up of Pornographic content simply shows that Apple had neglected to set up the proper filter for its iMessage app that is currently used by the millions user after the iOS 10 software update rolled out. And the update to iMessage was one of the top rated features in Apple’s iOS 10 update.

Apple has built a GIF search feature into iMessage in iOS 10. Apple has already blocked many adult words, but Apple didn’t anticipate porn content to surface through words like “Huge and “Butt”. While the company has banned searches for common sexual terms, it seems to have a problem preventing porn from being displayed when more normal words like “huge”.

According to The Concourse, Apple is working to filter out the X-rated GIFs and that new search results from those words will either show filtered Gif’s or will simply show no results. On the other hand, experts believe that Apple might be pulling the Gifs from websites like Giphy, so it will be hard to eliminate pornographic contents.
